Mason County: 2013 Entrepreneurship Student Competition

As a part of a community wide effort to encourage new business development, the Shelton School District has created a competition for students to display and pitch their ideas for starting a new business in Mason County. On Thursday November 21st, the school district and the Economic Development Council of Mason County will gather together a panel of business experts to facilitate a competition amongst students from Shelton. Independent of each other, students, one by one, face the panel and deliver a comprehensive pitch of a business idea of their choice. Key components that participants will be judged include:

  • Presentation
  • Customer problem and the need to solve
  • Product Idea Value of proposition
  • Competitive advantages
  • Target Market Management
  • Financials Investment potential

Following the judging a celebration of effort and awarding of prizes will occur.

It is our intention to foster the development of new businesses to be owned and operated by residents of Mason County, Washington. The Shelton School District is providing students a variety of courses that assist with the creation of a business plan and this event provides a forum to showcase the results to an experienced group of local professionals so students can receive feedback on how to continue their plan of action in the community.
