Pitch George Elevator Competition
In one day, the Pitch George Elevator Competition witnesses over 60 teams pitch a new venture idea. Participants compete at 3 tiers, graduate, undergraduate, and high school as individuals or in teams of 2-3. The competition begins online as participants submit executive summaries for their ideas. A panel of judges narrows the field to 24 graduate teams, 24 undergraduate teams, and 12 high school teams, thereby advancing these teams to the semi-finals. On the day of the competition, the semi-finalists are allowed 3 minutes to pitch their venture to a panel of 3-4 judges. After this round, 5 teams from each tier advance to the finals based on judges' scores, which factor in market need, feasibility, enthusiasm and passion, value proposition, and the idea as a whole. The finalists then pitch in elevators held at the top floor of the GW School of Business. Graduate, undergraduate, and high school teams pitch in 3 separate elevators to a new panel of judges. The judges' scores are tallied and winners are presented with checks. 1st place graduate and undergraduate winners each receive $2,000; 2nd place, $1,500; and 3rd place, $1,000. High school 1st place winners receive $750; 2nd place, $500; 3rd place, $250. In addition, a Fan Favorite award is given to 1 of the 5 finalist teams based on audience voting. The final round is live-streamed to watching rooms, where the audience votes for its favorite team - graduate and undergraduate each receive $500, and high school, $250. Prize money is not the only benefit to Pitch George. The 15-20 judges are real-life entrepreneurs, successful businessmen and -women, and movers and shakers in the DC entrepreneurship community. Participants can network with each other, judges, and audience members throughout the competition. To further the entrepreneurial spirit at GW, the 1st place graduate and undergraduate teams are granted an automatic advancement to the semi-finals of the GW Business Plan Competition, involving over $63,000 in cash prizes!
