We found 3 people who had taken DECA in high school and/or in DECA currently as a professional member who have their own business. We asked them a few questions about their business. We asked each participant 3 question. The first one was what do you remember the most about your experiences in DECA/ high school classes? The second question was how your high school DECA expiree/ high school classes help you once you entered college and/or your career? And our third question was what are you currently doing? Our first participant was Mr. Carl and he said “In high school I wanted to go to Dental School and become a Dentist.  MY exposure to business gave me an appreciation of what I would need to do to run my practice beside what skills I would learn in dental school. Once in college it allows me to pick the business courses that I felt would be needed to run a practice. It came in handy because little did I know that there was no education in how to survive in the business of Dentistry at dental school. I received an excellent education on how to treat patients, but not how to survive in business so I could continue to treat patients.   I am now in my 28 the year of practice and without some of the business knowledge I had I may not have survive the early years of practice.”  Our Second participant Eileen Gutierrez said “What I remember most about DECA are the field trips and big projects that we had to do. Everything Ms. Hinkhouse planned for us to do, field trips & assignments wise were helpful. Her big projects like the lucky magazine assignment helped me understand how fashion works. With everything that I learned from DECA, I used as a guide to target market my consumers and how to use certain color palettes. DECA made it a lot easier for me to manage my clothing shop, and how to earn/save money. Without DECA, I don’t think I would've been able to start my shop. I am currently majoring in Business Marketing so I can continue on managing my shop, and hopefully expand it. Company wise, I am starting a new FW 13 / SS 14 line for next year so that I'll be able to sell more things other than what is currently in stock.” Our third participant was Mr. Nishanian and he said “I don’t remember mush but I do remember playing for the varsity wrestling team. I was ready to get out and move on to great things. High school gave the foundation to go to college and law school at George Mason University. I am currently practicing law and a partner at Vanderpool, Fostick and Nishanian PC.” Email of Mr.Nishanian is Email of Mr. Carl is . Eileen Email is
