Growing Success of 1 Million Cups
1 Million Cups, an entrepreneur pitch program of Kauffman Labs and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has grown progressively in size and reach over the last several months. Since the program began in April 2012 in Kansas City, it has now expanded to 10 U.S. cities.
“There's a lot of growth that will take place this year, our program will continue to develop, but mostly I hope 1MC educates entrepreneurs, builds community and creates great companies,” 1MC organizer Nate Olson told Silicon Prairies News recently.
Olson’s aim is to spread the program to 20 cities by the end of 2013—and an international city is expected to join the network too.
The format is simple. Every Wednesday morning, two local entrepreneurs have the opportunity to present their startups in six minutes. After the pitch, they engage in 20 minutes of questioning with those in attendance—typically mentors, investors, advisors and other entrepreneurs—and gather valuable feedback that enables them to find new ways of improving their businesses while connecting with the community and strengthening their local entrepreneurial ecosystem.
1 Million Cups takes place every Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in the following cities:
• Cedar Rapids, IA
• Chapel Hill, NC
• Chattanooga, TN
• Denver, CO
• Des Moines, IA
• Houston, TX
• Iowa City, IA
• Kansas City, MI
• Reno, NV
• St. Louis, MI
