Washington State Celebrates GEW with Over 100 Events
Washington leads GEW this year, according to our state leader board, with over 30 partners having organized 106 events and counting across the state.
This is the second year the state has participated in Global Entrepreneurship Week, with Gov. Jay Inslee issuing the 2013 proclamation. Events during the week will include high school business plan competitions, seminars, workshops, speakers, webinars and startup weekends in 32 counties, where residents can explore their entrepreneurial side and perhaps even become inspired to start a business. The statewide celebration involves near every aspect of economic development in Washington, including economic development organizations, tribes, associate development organizations, educational institutions and private enterprise.
“Washington is well known for its entrepreneurial culture,” said Department of Commerce Director Brian Bonlender. “Business legends such as Amazon, Boeing, Costco, Nordstrom, Microsoft and Starbucks began in this way, growing from local startups to world leaders. Global Entrepreneurship Week is an opportunity to showcase this aspect of our state’s economy and encourage a new generation of entrepreneurs.”
